15 May 2010: Creative Tango Writing Workshop
This is presented by 'Friends of Buenos Aires at the Beach Incorporated', a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting & developing tango arts.
Calling all creative writers – published or not, professional or amateur.
A Tango Creative Writing Workshop: ‘NEW DIRECTIONS’, facilitated by Dr Ron Goodrich, will be held on Saturday 15th May, 2010, from 3 – 5 pm at St Albans Church (a lovely tango venue and home of La Mision & Milonga Divertida) on the corner of Wynnstay & Orrong Roads, Prahran, Victoria.
The workshop is limited to 20 participants, registered in order of application. Cost: $20 or $15 concession. Bookings essential – phone Pam on 041 753 1619 or email her at richardandpam@... to secure your place.
Dr Goodrich authored ‘Poetry and Dance, Poetry and Tango’, published in the January 2010 edition of Tango Australis. He teaches in the School of Communication & Creative Arts at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia and is a co-editor of the on-line refereed arts-practice journal, Double Dialogues.
The workshop, designed for any writer interested in addressing the tango muse, will inspire, build confidence and offer supportive feedback. Participants are asked to bring the tools of a writer: a pen and 6 sheets of A4 paper cut in half.
With the guidance of Dr Goodrich, participants will be encouraged to have fun as they experiment, try new approaches, develop greater sensitivity in the ‘languaging’ of writing, and attune their voice to a potential audience. The workshop will be of value to writers considering entering work in the 2010 Australian Tango Poetry Competition or Australian Tango Short Story Competition.
After the workshop, participants may adjourn somewhere local together for a social de-brief, bonding and refreshments.
They will also have the opportunity to return later, if they wish, to the church for further inspiration to experience Tango Bajo Milonga Divertida, a real milonga – the place where people who love tango come to dance socially together. A class (8pm) precedes the milonga (9 pm), and the cost is $15. (No bookings needed.)

'Tango in the Spring 2010' – 1-4 October, Canberra, Australia
A social celebration of Argentine Tango.
Sometimes you just want to dance!
![]()
Tango in the Spring will bring Argentine tango dancers from across Australia to Canberra from 1 – 4 October to dance together socially. We would love you to come.
Four days of social tango dancing to great Golden Age music in a friendly and warm social setting. Dance with new partners, and catch up with old tango friends. Four milongas and a practica: interruption-free tango dancing. Excellent interstate and local DJs will provide great tango music.
We have kept the prices very low: only $60 for the whole four days. There will be a bunch of other social activities as well, which might have separate costs. Our main aim is to bring tango dancers together so we can meet and dance with each other — to simply enjoy dancing tango. All the organisers are volunteers, and we don’t stand to gain financially. We just want to have a great time, and strengthen social tango in Australia by connecting dancers across the nation and beyond.
Drop us an email at info@tangointhespring.org.au to make sure we contact you as soon as bookings open. We’ll have it on Facebook soon, too.
Look forward to seeing you in October!

September 2010 tango quote of the month: “I'm working in a hospital in Buenos Aires. Everytime there is a ward round we go to the intensive care unit to check how our patients are doing. On the way out, in a bay almost hidden by a corridor I always listen to fuzzy sounds of tango. The other day I ventured to see who was there. I saw a man, in his 70s, intubated and sound asleep, a small radio tuned into 92.5FM pouring tango and nothing else. I asked the nurse who this man was. She told me that he had been in coma for some time now and that his family had brought him the little radio so that he would be listening tango while he was sleeping. They said that if he was listening to tango, he would probably be dancing all the time in his dreams.” - Bailado por koolricky
