Carlos Di Sarli

Di Sarli's music has a clear rhythm with an easy, danceable sound for beginners whilst sufficiently complex for more advanced dancers, enabling his music to be regularly played at milongas
At the age of 13 (horrifying his piano teacher and father) Di Sarli toured with a company playing popular music and tangos
In 1919 he created his first orchestra, and played at a tea room
In this year he composed his first tango - the Meditación - but unfortunately this was never recorded
In 1923 he joint the bandoneonist Anselmo Aieta group
Di Sarli later joined the group led by the violinist Juan Pedro Castillo
In 1927 Di Sarli formed a sextet (violins, bandoneóns and string bass)
Between 1928 and 1931 Di Sarli recorded 49 sides with his sextet on the Victor label
In the mid 1930s he joined a small group of musicians with the bandoneonist Juan Cambareri
In the 1938 Di Sarli created his own orchestra which recorded the year after - this recording is considered a classic: The Tango Corazón
That orchestra was very successful for the next decade, recording 155 sides
Di Sarli's orchestra broke up in 1949
Between 1951 and 1953 he recorded 84 sides
In 1954 Di Sarli starting recording again, and these are considered classics of the genre, amongst the greatest tango recordings of all time
He recorded his final side in 1958
Di Sarli was seen as very innovative, with such reputation for good music that he was named El Señor del Tango (Lord of Tango)
Carlos Di Sarli is considered one of the greatest musicians of tango with a flair for elegance and subtlety
He always wore a dark pair of sunglasses to hide a childhood wound
Di Sarli died in January 1960, leaving behind 27 albums
